SUBJECT:
Turn Signal/Tail Lamp Assembly Revision
MODELS:
1998 (JX) Sebring Convertible
DISCUSSION:
A new tail lamp assembly has been released on the 1998 Sebring Convertible beginning on December 11, 1997 (MDH 1211XX). The new tail lamp assembly includes a revision to the turn signal lamp operation. On vehicles built prior to December 11, 1997, when the turn signal is operated both tail lamp bulbs in the tail lamp will blink and turn on when the brakes are applied. On vehicles built on/after December 11, 1997 only the outboard bulb will blink, and only the inboard bulb will turn on when the brakes are applied.
The parts are not interchangeable. The build date and the turn signal operation should be used to identify proper part replacements.
The new tail lamp assembly part numbers 05288608AB or 05288609AB have two mounting studs instead of the three used prior to December 11, 1997. Vehicles built during the change may have a mastic patch (P/N 04278178) installed over the middle tail lamp mounting hole to prevent water intrusion. If the mastic patch is damaged or missing, install a new mastic patch prior to installing the new tail lamp assembly.
