SUBJECT:
Convertible Top is Pinched Between Bows When Lowered
MODELS:
1996 - 1998 (JX) Sebring Convertible
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Wear or pinch marks may show on the outside surface of the top approximately 4 inches rearward of the front header and 3 inches inboard on each side. The top may appear to be pinched between the bows in the lowered position.
DIAGNOSIS:
Inspect the top in the areas described above, if the marks are found, perform the Repair Procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves adjusting the downstop jam nut.
1. With the top 1/2 way down, the jam nut is located in the rear pivot area near the balance link. See illustration.
2. Back the jam nut out 1 full turn.
3. Insure proper top boot installation. If the boot is difficult to install, turn the jam nut in 1/4 turn.
4. Wash the top following the procedure outlined in Technical Service Bulletin 23-56-96. Proper washing will remove the pinch marks made by the top bow.
