Disassembly and Assembly






REMOVAL
1. Follow removal procedure outlined in the illustration noting the following.





2. Using special tool remove cylinder head bolts.





3. Using the special tool, compress the spring.
4. Remove the retainer locks.





5. Remove valve guide seals with pliers.

NOTE: Do not reuse removed valve stem seal.

INSTALLATION
1. Follow removal steps in reverse order noting the following.
2. Install the valve spring seat.
3. Using the special tool, install a new stem seal to the valve guide.

CAUTION:





a. Valve stem seals for intake valve and for exhaust valve are different. Be sure to install the correct ones. Valve stem seal identification is by color, intake is silver and exhaust is black.
b. Do not reuse the removed valve stern seal.





c. Always use the special tool to install the valve stem seal. Improperly installed valve stem seal may cause oil leak.





4. Direct the valve spring end with identification color toward the spring retainer.
5. Install lock retainers








6. Tighten the cylinder head bolts in the sequence shown, using special tool MD998051, or equivalent. Each bolt should be tightened in two to three steps, torquing progressively. Tighten to the specified torque in the final sequence.
