SUBJECT:
Intermittent/Inoperative RKE Transmitter
MODELS:
1997 (JX) Sebring Convertible
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter (key fob) is inoperative or operates intermittently.
DIAGNOSIS:
Test each button of the transmitter and note which are operational, if one or all are inoperative or the owner describes intermittent operation proceed to the Repair Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves synchronization of the RKE transmitter and if required the replacement of the RKE transmitter.
1. Check the Body Control Module (BCM) for power and ground following the procedure in the 1997 Sebring Convertible Service Manual (Publication No. 81-270-7122) page 8P-6.
2. Synchronize the key fob rolling code with the receiver by pressing and holding the lock button then the deck lid button simultaneously for at least five seconds. Then wait until the doors unlock indicating that the code has been synchronized. This may take as long as six minutes.
NOTE:
THE PROCEDURE IN STEP 2 CAN ONLY BE USED FOR A RKE TRANSMITTER THAT HAS BEEN PREVIOUSLY PROGRAMMED TO THIS VEHICLE.
3. Test the RKE transmitter for proper operation. If the transmitter is now operating properly, return the vehicle to the owner. If the transmitter is not operating properly, replace the RKE transmitter.
NOTE:
IF THE RKE TRANSMITTER IS TO BE REPLACED, THE TRANSMITTER SHOULD NOT BE OPENED. IF THE TRANSMITTER HAS BEEN OPENED AND THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED, THE ORIGINAL BATTERY SHOULD BE INSTALLED PRIOR TO RETURNING THE PART.
4. Program the new RKE transmitter to the BCM using the DRB III (scan tool). Follow the steps given by the DRB III.
