NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO ALL 1995 MODELS, 1996 TALON MODELS BUILT PRIOR TO APRIL 1, 1996 (MDH 04-O1-XX), ALL 1996 AVENGER/SEBRING MODELS AND 1997 AVENGER/SEBRING MODELS BUILT PRIOR TO DECEMBER 10, 1996 (MDH 12-10-XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
A light thump, chuckle, or creak noise may be heard from the rear of the vehicle while driving over small to medium bumps. This noise comes from inside the shock and can sound differently based on driving conditions.
DIAGNOSIS:
Drive the vehicle over small to medium bumps while listening for noise from the rear. If the
noise is detected proceed to the Repair Procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
2 MB948079 Lot KA27 or greater Shock, Rear Talon ESi models
2 MB948090 Lot KB15 or greater Shock, Rear Talon TSi models
2 MB948091 Lot KB14 or greater Shock, Rear Talon AWD models
2 MB948117 Lot KJ15 or greater Shock, Rear Avenger/Sebring all models
The lot number is located on the shock absorber, below the part number. The lot number
tells the year, month and day of manufacture. Do not use any shocks with lot numbers
older than those listed above. Use the following example to determine shock applicability:
First position = Year (J=97, K=96, L=95, etc.)
Second position = Month (A=Jan, B=Feb, G=Mar, etc.)
Third & Fourth position = Day of Month
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves replacing the rear shocks.
1. Replace the rear shocks as described on page's 17-15 and 17-16 of the applicable service manual as follows:
1995 Sebring/Avenger, publication number 81-270-5117
1995 Talon, publication number 81-270-5500
1996 Sebring/Avenger, publication number 81-270-6117
1996 Talon, publication number 81-270-6500
1997 Sebring/Avenger, publication number 81-270-7117
