Squeaking Or Rubbing Noise From The Rear Trailing Arm Area

NOTE:
THIS INFORMATION APPLIES TO VEHICLES BUILT PRIOR TO JAN. 21, 1998 (MDH 0121XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
A squeaking or hard rubbing noise may be heard from the rear of the vehicle when traveling over bumps.
DIAGNOSIS:
Noting when the customer hears this noise is important (speed, while turning, type of road, etc.). Attempt to duplicate the noise condition. If necessary, take the customer on a test drive to help identify the noise.
If the exact location of this noise cannot be determined, first check all suspension related components for wear, damage, and tightening torque. If these items check OK, and/or the noise is determined to be coming from the trailing arm area, perform the Repair Procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
2/side MR316383 Stopper, Trailing Arm Bushing (Outside)
2/side MR316384 Stopper, Trailing Arm Bushing (Inside)
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves upgrading the trailing arm bushings for 1995 through 1997 models to the 1998 design (Figure 1) and upgrading the applicable 1998 models with bushings that have an increased amount of lubricant in the rubber.
1. Following the steps listed in the applicable service manual, disassemble the trailing arm to gain access to the bushings.
2. Replace the bushings as required with p/n MR316383 and MR316384. Two of each part number will be required per side.
3. Torque all attachment bolts/nuts to the proper values listed in the service manual.
4. Test drive the vehicle to verify the repair.
