Stabilizer Area

1. Lift the vehicle using a hoist that picks the vehicle up by the tires or put the vehicle on an alignment rack.

NOTE:
THE VEHICLE WEIGHT HAS TO BE APPLIED TO EACH WHEEL DURING THIS OPERATION.

2. Shake the stabilizer bar by hand to see if there is play between the bar and the bushings (if there is no play, proceed to step 5).

3. If there is play, replace the stabilizer bushings, see Parts Required section and appropriate Service Manual (Group 2).

4. If the bushings were replaced, road test the vehicle and check if the noise still exists (if the noise still exists, proceed to step 5).

5. Check the breakaway torque of the stabilizer link ball joints (see appropriate Service Manual (Group 2).

6. If the breakaway torque is over the specification of 1.5 Nm (13 in. lbs.), there is excessive axial play over 0.1 mm (.004 in.), or the link is damaged replace the stabilizer link.

7. Check for any damage on the stabilizer link dust cover. Replace the cover as necessary.

8. Road test the vehicle and check if the noise still exists. If the noise still exists, proceed to the next area.
