Upperarm

1. Lift the vehicle using a frame hoist to allow the suspension to be unloaded.

2. Check the upper arm ball joint breakaway torque using the procedures in the appropriate Service Manual (Group 2).

3. If the breakaway torque is out of the specified range of 0.3 - 1.5 Nm (3 - 13 in. lbs.), replace the upper arm.

NOTE:
AS OF 3/96 PRODUCTION, THE UPPER ARM BALL JOINT HAS SEALER ADDED ON THE TOP. THE SEALER IS FOR ADDED PROTECTION AGAINST WATER INTRUSION.

4. Verify if there is any damage to the dust cover.

5. If the dust cover was damaged during servicing, you can replace only the dust cover.

6. Road test the vehicle and check if the noise still exists. If the noise still exists, proceed to the next area.
