General Safety Precautions
Always wear safety glasses when servicing an air bag equipped vehicle or when handling an air bag module.Because this system is a sensitive, complex electro-mechanical unit, before attempting to diagnose, remove or install any air bag system component, you must first disarm air bag system. Refer to Disarming & Arming of Air Bag System under Service and Repair.
The fasteners, screws and bolts used for air bag components have special coatings and are specifically designed for air bag system. They must not be replaced with substitutes. If fastener replacement is required, use correct fasteners provided in service package.
Ensure no one is inside vehicle when air bag system is armed. Refer to Disarming & Arming of Air Bag System under Service and Repair.
WARNINGS
(1) Improper service or maintenance of any component of the SRS, or any SR~related component, can lead to personal injury or death to service personnel (from inadvertentfiring of the air bag) or to the driver and passenger (from rendering the SRS inoperative).
(2) Service or maintenance of any SRS component or SRS-related component must be performed only at an authorized service center.
(3) Personnel must thoroughly review Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Service information before beginning any service or maintenance of any component of the SRS or any SRS-related component.
NOTE: The SRS includes the following components: SRS-ECU, SRS warning light, air bag module, clock spring and interconnecting wiring.
