Minimum Idle Air Flow Test - Revision

NO: 18-05-98

GROUP: Vehicle Performance

DATE: Feb. 27, 1998

SUBJECT:
Minimum Idle Air Flow Test Revision

MODELS:
1995 - 1998 (FJ) Avenger/Sebring/Talon

NOTE:
THIS INFORMATION APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 2.0L NATURALLY ASPIRATED (NON-TURBO) ENGINE.

DISCUSSION:
The minimum idle air flow test for the models listed may indicate an erroneous failure due to the inability of the software in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to hold the Idle Air Control (IAC) motor stable during the test sequence. A procedure change must be made when performing this test to prevent the IAC motor from influencing the test results.

The flow chart (Figure 1) indicates the one change necessary to perform this test properly.

Make a note in your applicable diagnostic publications to incorporate this change as necessary.
