Brake Drag Torque Measurement (Front or Rear)

1. Remove the wheel and install the wheel nuts onto the studs to hold the rotor positively in place.

2. Prepare for the measurement as follows:

A. Place the transaxle in neutral with the parking brake off.

B. Start the vehicle and depress the brake pedal with approximately 196 N (43 lbs) of foot force for 5 seconds. Shut the engine "Off".

C. Rotate the disc brake rotor in a forward direction for 10 revolutions.

3. Using a torque wrench, record the rotating torque of the rotor (Figure 2).

NOTE:
DO NOT MEASURE BREAKAWAY TORQUE.

4. Remove the caliper from the hub and record the rotating torque of the rotor again. Calculate the drag torque by subtracting the first and second readings. The calculated torque should be 4 Nm (35 in. lbs.) or less.

5. Make appropriate repairs or reinstall the caliper.

NOTE:
TO OBTAIN CONSISTENT MEASUREMENTS FROM SIDE TO SIDE, FULLY COMPLETE ONE SIDES MEASUREMENTS AND CALIPER REINSTALLATION BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH THE OTHER SIDES MEASUREMENTS.
