Fuel Filler Neck - Service Manual Update

Fuel Filler Neck Service

MODELS:
1996 (JX) Sebring Convertible

DISCUSSION:

Due to the late introduction of the 1996 (JX) Sebring Convertible, the Service Manual Procedures are contained in the 1996 (JA) Breeze/Cirrus/Stratus Service Manual (Publication No. 81-270-6121). The groups unique to the JX are contained in the 1996 (JX) Service Manual Supplement (Publication No. 81-270-6121A). Both manuals are required to service the 1996 (JX) Sebring Convertible.

A late change was made to the 1996 JX fuel filler neck attaching method. To service the fuel filler neck use the following procedure:

FUEL FILLER NECK

REMOVAL

1. Loosen fuel filler tube cap.





2. Remove wheelhouse splash shield.
3. Remove screw in left side frame rail which secures filler tube bracket.
4. Gently push filler tube neck through grommet in filler door housing.
5. Disconnect fuel filler ground strap from body.
6. Disconnect filler tube hose from fuel tank neck.

INSTALLATION





1. Be sure that grommet is fully seated in filler door housing positioned with chamfer toward outside of vehicle.
2. Position filler tube with hose installed, but not tightened, on the fuel tank neck.
3. Apply lubrication to grommet and push filler tube into place. Be sure tube is fully seated in grommet.
4. Reinstall filler tube bracket and screw to frame rail. Tighten to 7 Nm (60 in.lbs).
5. Tighten hose clamp at tank to 3.5 Nm (31 in.lbs.).
6. Install fuel filler ground strap to body.
