Smooth Road Steering wheel Vibration

MODELS:

1996 (JX) Sebring Convertible

NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 16" TIRES ONLY.

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

A smooth road steering wheel vibration may be felt at speeds of 65 MPH and above.

DIAGNOSIS/REPAIR PROCEDURE:





Test drive the vehicle on a smooth road with all accessories turned off to verify that the vibration felt is in the 65 MPH range. If vibration is felt, proceed to the visual inspection.





NOTE:
IF ANY CORRECTIVE ACTION WAS TAKEN DURING THE VISUAL INSPECTION, TEST DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINE IF THE VIBRATION CONDITION HAS BEEN CORRECTED.

NOTE:
INSURE THAT THE BALANCER IS PROPERLY CALIBRATED PRIOR TO BALANCING ANY TIRE/WHEEL ASSEMBLY.

1. Place a mark on the tire and one lug to insure the tire/wheel assembly is placed in the same position when installed after balancing. The tire position on the vehicle should also be noted.

2. Remove the four tire/wheel assemblies from the vehicle and balance to within 0.25 oz.

3. If one of the tire assemblies cannot be balanced:

^ Remove all balance weights from the assembly.

^ Break down the assembly.

^ Rotate the tire 180 degrees on the wheel.

^ Install the tire back onto the wheel.

^ Balance the tire/wheel to within 0.25 oz.

^ Proceed to step 4.

4. Mount the four tire/wheel assemblies into the same location on the vehicle they were removed from.

5. Test drive the vehicle, repeating the original drive taken to duplicate the vibration.

6. If the vehicle is corrected return to the customer.

7. If the vehicle is not corrected, determine if the vibration is coming from the front or rear of the vehicle. Rotate the tire/wheel assembly 180 degrees on the lug nut, of the affected axle.

POLICY: Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty.
