SUBJECT:
Moisture In Tail lamp Assembly

MODELS:
1996 (JX) Sebring Convertible

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Moisture in the tail lamp assembly.

DIAGNOSIS:

Inspect for signs of moisture inside of tail lamp assembly, if moisture is found proceed to the Repair Procedure.

PARTS REQUIRED:

1 05288608 Tail lamp Assembly & Sealed Wire Harness - Right Side
1 05288609 Tail lamp Assembly & Sealed Wire Harness - Left Side

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This bulletin involves replacing the tail lamp assembly with a new sealed tail lamp assembly and harness.

1. Release the trunk latch and open trunk lid.

2. Remove trunk lining as necessary to gain access to tail lamp nuts.

3. Remove plastic nuts holding tail lamp to rear closure panel.

4. Separate lamp from opening in quarter panel.





5. Disconnect the bulb wire harness at the first connector. Figure 1

NOTE:
THE LEFT SIDE TAIL LAMP ASSEMBLY ALSO CONTAINS THE LICENSE PLATE BULB. THE WIRING HARNESS FOR THE LICENSE PLATE BULB IS ATTACHED TO THE BUMPER BEAM WITH A CHRISTMAS TREE TYPE FASTENER AND TAPE.

6. Separate the tail lamp assembly and bulb wire harness from the vehicle.

7. Position the new tail lamp assembly and bulb wire harness into the vehicle.

8. Connect the bulb wire harness connector. If installing the left side tail lamp assembly, route the license plate bulb and connect.

9. Install the plastic nuts holding tail lamp to rear closure panel in the following order: outboard, center and inboard.

10. Install the trunk lining.
