NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO ALL NEWLY RECEIVED VEHICLES BUILT WITH A 2.5L ENGINE ONLY.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Immediately after being received by the dealership, some vehicles may exhibit a rough engine idle. In extreme cases, a severe misfire or a no start condition may also occur. These conditions are caused by the Mexico summer blend gasoline (low RVP) shipped with the vehicle from the assembly plant. Cold weather will exaggerate these symptoms.
CAUTION:
OPERATING THE VEHICLE WITH SEVERE MISFIRE AND/OR SEVERE ROUGH IDLE CAUSED BY DIRTY OR FOULED SPARK PLUGS MAY CAUSE IRREPARABLE CATALYST DAMAGE.
DISCUSSION:
This repair procedure should only be applied to those vehicles newly delivered to the dealership, with no MIL illuminated.
If the MIL light is illuminated, the cause should be diagnosed and repaired using the appropriate diagnostic and service manuals.
PARTS REQUIRED:

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves insuring the vehicle has been fueled with local gasoline, driving the vehicle and replacing the front three spark plugs (# 2, # 4, # 6) if needed.
SLIGHTLY ROUGH IDLE OR SLIGHT MISFIRE:
1. Add a minimum of 5 gallons of local regular gasoline.
NOTE:
ADDING FUEL IS REIMBURSED TO THE DEALER AS A PART OF NEW VEHICLE PREP AND DELIVERY. THE FUEL ADDED NOW SHOULD BE DOCUMENTED USING THE SAME DOCUMENTATION PROCEDURE AS USED AT DELIVERY AND INSERTED IN THE VEHICLE FILE.
2. Drive the vehicle for 2 to 3 miles in low gear at 25 to 30 MPH.
3. If unable to attain 25 to 30 MPH, or excessive throttle is required (more than half pedal movement to sustain MPH) immediately return to the dealership and replace the front three spark plugs.
4. If the condition clears during the road test, no further action is required.
SEVERE ROUGH IDLE:
1. Replace the front 3 spark plugs.
2. Add a minimum of 5 gallons regular gasoline.
3. Drive the vehicle for 2 to 3 miles in low gear at 25 to 30 MPH to insure that rough idle is no longer evident.
POLICY: Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty.
