Windnoise/Rattle From Convertible Top
MODELS:
1996 (JX) Sebring Convertible
NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO ALL VEHICLES BUILT PRIOR TO APRIL 15, 1996 (MDH 04-15-XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Windnoise, rattles or water leaks coming from front corners of convertible top.
DIAGNOSIS:
Raise top 1/4 of the way, to a 90 degree position. Pull headliner material down and inspect the latch module assembly. If the actuating link is bent, proceed to repair procedure. If the actuating link is not bent refer to the Sebring Convertible Service Manual Supplement (Publication Number 81-270-6121A) beginning on page 23-19 for the top adjustment procedures. Figure 1
PARTS REQUIRED:
1 4864766 Latch Module Assembly, Right (Black in color)
1 4864767 Latch Module Assembly, Left (Black in color)
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves the replacement of both latch module assemblies.
1. Position the top to the 90 degrees position.
2. Mark the position of the rail/taping plate to the arm for ease of reassembly and adjustment. Figure 2
3. Lower the top to allow access to the 9 center torx head screws on the header garnish and remove the header garnish.
NOTE:
FOR THE NEXT STEP IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THE TAPING PLATE BE HELD FIRMLY WHILE REMOVING THE SCREWS AND SEPARATING THE RAIL, TO PREVENT IT FROM FALLING. IT MAY BE NECESSARY TO RAISE THE TOP SLIGHTLY TO AID THE REMOVAL.
4. Remove the 2 torx head screws from the rail, while holding the taping plate and remove the plate from the rail. Figure 2
5. Remove the 3 torx head screws from the latch module assembly.
6. Remove the latch module assembly from the top and the rail,
7. Repeat Steps 1 thru 6 for the opposite side.
8. Install the new latch module assembly with removable thread lock and torque the screws to 90 in-lbs.
9. Install the rail and taping plate screws. Do not fully tighten the 2 screws at this time.
10. Lower the top to the closed position to allow installation of the header garnish. Install the 9 screws and torque to 90 in-lbs.
11. Raise top to the 90 degree position and line up the mark made in step 2. Torque the 2 screws to 90 in-lbs.
12. Check top for proper adjustment adjust as needed following the adjustment procedures in the Sebring Convertible Service Manual (Publication Number 81-270-6121A) pages 23-19 & 23-20.
