NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO TALON MODELS BUILT PRIOR TO JUNE 1, 1995 (MDH 06-01-XX) AND AVENGER/SEBRING MODELS BUILT PRIOR TO AUGUST 2, 1995 (MDH 08-02-XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Some vehicles may exhibit an intermittent or random activation of the theft alarm when the doors, trunk, and hood are all closed. This may occur during high wind or ambient temperature conditions. A hood that is over flush may also contribute to the condition.
DIAGNOSIS:
Verify normal alarm system operation by using the following procedure:
1. Adjust hood over flushness, if required.
2. Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position and fully open the drivers door window.
3. Turn the ignition key to the "LOCK" position and remove the key from the ignition switch.
4. Open only the drivers door and make sure all other doors are closed, including the hood and trunk lid.
5. Lock the drivers door with the key or keyless entry system.
6. With all doors locked, the SECURITY light will illuminate. Make sure the light switches off in approximately 20 seconds.
7. After the SECURITY light switches off, reach through the drivers window, pull up on the lock lever and open the drivers door.
8. When the door is opened, the horn should sound along with the headlights flashing on and off.
9. To stop the alarm, insert the key into the door or trunk lid key cylinder and turn the key.
10. To check the trunk lid or hood, pull the remote release lever before the alarm is activated or after the first three minutes of alarm activation.
If the system is not functioning as described, follow the appropriate diagnostic procedures listed in the applicable service manual. NOTE: A voltmeter must be used when measuring input signals at the data link connector.
If proper operation is found, proceed with this Repair Procedure.
