Manual Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair


1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove the air cleaner at throttle body inlet.
2. Remove clutch housing vent cap, exposing clutch cable end and release lever, then disconnect clutch cable at transaxle.
3. Remove selector cable lever at transaxle.
4. Remove crossover lever cable, then the shift cable mounting bracket.
5. Disconnect accelerator cables ends and bracket from throttle body.
6. Remove upper starter bolt and upper bellhousing stud nut, then the throttle body support bracket.
7. Remove upper transaxle mounting bolts, then the upper bellhousing bolts.
8. Remove Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS), then disconnect back-up lamp wiring at transaxle.
9. Install suitable engine bridge fixture and support engine.
10. Raise and support vehicle, then remove front wheels.
11. Drain transaxle fluid.
12. Remove both front driveshafts.
13. Remove left lower splash shield/battery cover.
14. Remove left transaxle mount lower bracket bolts.
15. Remove engine lower crossbar retaining bolts.
16. Remove front engine steel mount bracket, then the bolts on front engine aluminum mount bracket.
17. Remove lower starter bolt, then the rear transaxle mount bracket.
18. Remove transaxle to rear lateral bending strut from engine and transaxle.
19. Remove lower dust shield screw.
20. Using suitable transaxle support jack, support transaxle.
21. Rotate engine crankshaft clockwise to gain access to driveplate clutch bolts, then remove driveplate clutch bolts.
22. Remove lower transaxle to engine bellhousing bolts, then the transaxle.
23. Reverse procedure to install.
