Front


1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove cotter pin, lock nut and spring washer from front stub axle.
3. Lower vehicle, then loosen hub nut while vehicle is on the ground and brakes are applied.
4. Raise and support vehicle, then remove front wheel and tire assembly.
5. Remove front disc brake caliper and brake disc assembly and support aside from steering knuckle.
6. On models equipped with 15 inch wheels, remove lower ball joint heat shield from lower control arm.
7. On all models, remove attaching outer tie rod end to steering knuckle.
8. Using remover tool No. MB-991113, or equivalent, remove tie rod end from steering knuckle.

9. Remove speed sensor cable routing bracket.
10. Remove cotter pin and castle nut from stud of lower ball joint at steering knuckle.
11. Turn steering knuckle so front of steering knuckle is facing as far outboard in wheelwell as possible. Lightly tap boss on steering knuckle to separate from stud of lower ball joint. Do not hit lower control arm or ball joint grease seal.
12. Lift up on steering knuckle and separate from ball joint stud. Support driveshaft so it does not hang by inner Constant Velocity (CV) joint.

13. Separate steering knuckle from outer CV joint by pulling away.
14. Remove cotter pin and nut from upper ball joint to steering knuckle attachment.
15. Remove upper ball joint stud using puller tool No. C3894-A, or equivalent, then the steering knuckle.
16. Mount steering knuckle securely in a vise, then remove three bolts attaching hub/bearing assembly to steering knuckle.
17. Remove hub/bearing assembly from steering knuckle. If bearing does not come out, tap lightly using a rubber mallet.
18. Before installing hub/bearing assembly, clean all mounting surfaces thoroughly.
19. Install hub/bearing assembly in steering knuckle aligning bolts in bearing flange with hole in steering knuckle.
20. Reverse remaining procedure to install.
