Clutch Replacement

The modular clutch assembly used in these models consists of a single dry-type clutch disc and a diaphragm style clutch cover. The clutch assembly is serviced as a unit and cannot be disassembled.

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove starter wiring, then the starter assembly.
3. Remove transaxle as outlined under "Transaxle, Replace".

4. Remove modular clutch assembly from transaxle input shaft. Handle carefully to avoid contaminating friction surfaces.
5. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Install driveplate mounting bolts in a crisscross pattern until all bolts are seated.
b. Tighten bolts to specifications using same crisscross pattern.
