Steering Wheel: Service and Repair

1. Place front wheels in straight ahead position, then rotate steering wheel 180°; clockwise.
2. Lock steering column with ignition lock, then disconnect and isolate battery ground cable.
3. Remove and disconnect speed control switches, then remove air bag module bolts from rear of steering wheel.
4. Carefully lift module away from wheel and disconnect air bag and horn electrical connectors.
5. Remove steering wheel retaining nut, then use a suitable puller to remove wheel, noting the following:
a. Do not hammer on end of steering shaft during removal.
b. Carefully feed wires through holes in clockspring armature.
6. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque steering wheel retaining nut to 45 ft-lbs.
b. Torque air bag module bolts to 8 ft-lbs.
