DEALER SERVICE INSTRUCTIONS

Emissions Recalls # 7581 and # 7582 -- Reprogram PCM

^ This service requirement applies only to 1996 model year Chrysler Cirrus, Dodge Stratus and Plymouth Breeze (JA); and Chrysler Sebring Convertible (JX) vehicles equipped with a 2.4L engine ("X" in the 8th VIN position) and:

^ a Federal Emission Control System (Sales Code -- NAA Recall) # 7581

^ a California Emission Control System (Sales Code -- NAE) -- Recall # 7582

^ The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) on the above listed vehicles, may fail to maintain adequate emission control when the vehicle is operated under load at a steady speed. To correct this condition, the PCM must be reprogrammed (flashed).

^ For vehicles involved in Recall # 7582 located in California: Be sure to provide a Vehicle Emission Recall Proof of Correction Form (Form No. 81-016-1053) to each owner upon completion of the recall service, for owner use as proof during renewal of the vehicle registration.

^ The PCM software which is loaded during the recall service procedure also includes any other PCM updates which may have been released (i.e. TSB's) between the date of manufacture and the issuance of the TIL CD update which was used.

Parts Packages:

^ Each involved dealer, to whom vehicles in the recall were invoiced, will receive enough Authorized Software Update labels and Authorized Modifications labels to service about 25% of those vehicles.
