MIL Illuminated With DTC Hex 6E - EGR System

MODELS:
1996 (JX) Sebring Convertible

NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 2.4L ENGINE ONLY.

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

The Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) is illuminated with fault hex code 6E (EGR System Performance) set.

DIAGNOSIS:





Inspect the vacuum line from the EGR solenoid to the brake booster for proper routing straight up to the brake booster. Proper routing is shown in illustration. If the line is routed improperly and/or kinked, perform the repair procedure.

PARTS REQUIRED:

1 4287822 EGR Solenoid and Vacuum Line Assembly

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This bulletin involves the replacement of the EGR solenoid and vacuum line assembly.

1. Disconnect the electrical connection to the EGR solenoid.

2. Remove the 2 attaching bolts from the EGR solenoid.

3. Remove the vacuum line at the brake booster end.

4. Remove and discard the EGR solenoid and vacuum line.

5. Install the new EGR solenoid and vacuum line assembly by installing the two mounting bolts and attaching the vacuum line at the brake booster.

6. Connect the electrical connection at the EGR solenoid.

7. Verify proper installation and routing by referring to the illustration.
