DATE: Apr. 25, 1997

SUBJECT:
2.4L Crankshaft/Camshaft Timing

MODELS:

1996 - 1997 (GS) Chrysler Voyager (European Market)
1996 - 1997 (JA) Breeze/Cirrus/Stratus
1996 - 1997 (JX) Sebring Convertible
1996 - 1997 (NS) Town & Country/Caravan/Voyager

NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO 2.4L ENGINES.

DISCUSSION:

Before removing the timing belt, rotate the crankshaft until the TDC mark on the oil pump housing aligns with the TDC mark on the crankshaft sprocket.

NOTE:
THE TRAILING EDGE OF SPROCKET TOOTH SHOULD BE ALIGNED WITH THE MARK ON THE OIL PUMP HOUSING (FIGURE 1). FAILURE TO ALIGN THE TRAILING EDGE OF THE SPROCKET TOOTH WITH THE MARK ON THE OIL PUMP WILL CAUSE THE CAMSHAFT MARKS TO BE MISALIGNED.

After the timing marks are aligned, follow the Service Manual procedures for timing belt removal and installation. After the belt has been installed and the tensioner released, rotate the crankshaft two complete revolutions in a clockwise direction. Verify that the TDC marks on the crankshaft and timing marks on the camshafts are aligned as shown in Figure 1.
