PARTS REQUIRED:
1 05003813AA Elastic Strap Kit, Convertible Top
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves the installation of an elastic strap to each side of the top cover.
1. Raise the convertible top half way up. Stop with the top rail in a vertical position. Figure 1
2. Locate the main control link shown in Figure 1.
3. Using a ruler, measure 2-3/4 inches from the center of the link rivet across the main control link and mark. Measure toward the rear of the vehicle. Figure 2
4. At the mark made in step 3, measure down 3/8" from the top of the control link.
5. Where the two lines cross, drill a hole through the control link using a # 28 (9/64) drill bit. When drilling, use caution to avoid contacting the convertible top and weatherstrip.
6. From the forward edge of the cable pocket toward the rear of the vehicle, measure 18-11/16" for vinyl and 19-1/2 for cloth. Draw a line across the cable pocket. Figure 3
7. From the mark made in step 6, measure 1/2" toward the rear of the vehicle and mark.
8. From the center of the marks made in step 6 and 7, measure down 1/4" from the cable pocket stitch line and mark. Figure 3
9. Using care not to cut the cable, cut the top cover across the mark made in step 8 to allow access for the strap to fit through. Figure 3
10. Feed the elastic strap (provided in the kit) through the hole in the top cover.
11. Bring the two ends of the elastic strap down to the drilled hole in the outer edge of the control link.
12. Insert the shoulder screw to the strap and then to the link, torque to 30 In.lbs. Insure that the elastic strap can still freely move between the screw shoulder and the control link to prevent top binding.
13. Repeat the procedure for the other side and clean any shavings from the drilling procedure.
14. Cycle the top to insure proper folding when raised or lowered.
