Repair Procedure

This bulletin involves the replacement of the forward upstop bracket with a revised part and the installation of anti-rattle foam blocks.

1. Remove door trim panel as described on page 23-31 of the 1996 Sebring Convertible Supplemental Service Manual (Publication Number 81-270-6121A).

CAUTION:
WHEN REMOVING THE ARMREST SWITCH BEZEL, THE BEZEL SHOULD BE RAISED UNIFORMLY TO PREVENT BREAKAGE. DO NOT LIFT THE INBOARD SIDE FIRST.

2. Remove the adjustment bolt attaching the forward up-stop bracket to the door panel. Keep the bolt for later use. Figure 1

3. Remove the forward up-stop bracket from the vehicle and discard.

4. Install new forward up-stop bracket by starting the attaching bolt. Leave both the adjustment and contact bolts loose.

5. Raise the glass slowly until the front edge of glass is mm (1/16 in.) under flush to the tip of the mirror stanchion. Figure 2

NOTE:
IF THE VEHICLE WAS BUILT PRIOR TO JANUARY 30, 1996 (MDH 01-30-XX). INSPECT THE PLASTIC UP-STOP ATTACHED TO THE DOOR GLASS FOR A RETAINING SCREW. IF THE RETAINING SCREW IS MISSING, COMPLETE THE PLASTIC UP-STOP SCREW INSTALLATION REPAIR PROCEDURE GIVEN AT THE END OF THIS BULLETIN BEFORE CONTINUING.

CAUTION:
DO NOT RAISE THE DOOR GLASS ABOVE THE LISTED MEASUREMENT AS THIS MAY CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE MIRROR STANCHION.

6. Ensure that the contact bracket is engaged into the hook of the door glass plastic up-stop. Torque the contact bolt to 11.2 Nm (100 in. lbs.).

NOTE:
ENSURE THAT BOTH STABILIZER PADS OF THE BRACKET CONTACT THE DOOR PANEL.

7. While pushing down lightly (approx. 5 lbs. of force) on the adjustment bracket, secure the adjustment bolt to 11.2 Nm (100 in. lbs.). Figure 3

8. With the door open, lower and raise the glass to its full up position. Inspect to ensure:

^ That the contact bracket is properly engaged to the plastic up-stop on the door glass.

^ The front edge of the glass is flush to the tip of the mirror stanchion.

Readjust as needed.

9. Inspect to insure that the retaining screw is not making contact with the forward up-stop bracket.

10. Lower the glass to the mid-position.

11. Remove speaker and mounting bracket.

12. Peel back watershield from lower rear access hole in the door panel.

NOTE:
CLEAN BOTTOM OF DOOR PRIOR TO INSTALLING FOAM BLOCKS.

13. Locate the 3 drain hole plugs in the bottom of each door. The forward one is near the speaker opening, the middle near the front edge of the lower rear access hole in the door, and the rear is near the rear edge of the lower rear access hole in the door. These plugs will be used to help position the two foam blocks. Remove the backing tape from the foam blocks and refer to figure 4 to install them in the following positions:

A. Position the first block 5mm (.200 in.) rearward of the forward most drain hole plug in the bottom of the door.

B. Position the second block 50mm (1.96 in.) forward of the rearward most drain hole plug in the bottom of the door (between the rear and middle hole plugs).

14. Press down on the foam blocks to improve adhesion, then lower the glass to verify correct alignment onto the foam blocks.

15. Install the watershield.

16. Install speaker and bracket.

17. Install the trim panel.

18. Repeat procedure for other side.
