Repair Procedure

This bulletin involves the replacement of the left and right trunk lid hinges and both gas support rods.

1. Paint new hinges to match body color and allow to dry.

2. Release trunk latch and open trunk lid.

3. Mark outline of trunk hinge on the trunk lid and quarter panel trough to aid in installation.

4. Place a padded block between the deck panel, quarter panel and the trunk lid to prevent damage to the paint finish.

5. Support the trunk lid with a wooden dowel or similar rod.

6. Unlock the safety feature of the gas support cylinder by pulling out the caps at each end of the gas support cylinder.





7. Disengage the gas support cylinder from the trunk hinge by prying the cylinder from the ball stud hinge to trunk lid ( Figure 1).

8. Remove the bolts holding the trunk hinge to the trunk lid.

9. Remove the bolts holding the trunk hinge to quarter panel.

10. Remove the trunk hinge from vehicle.

11. Position the new trunk hinge to vehicle.

12. Loosely install the bolts holding the trunk hinge to the quarter panel.

13. Loosely install the bolts holding the trunk hinge to the trunk lid.

14. Align the trunk hinge to the marks made in step 3 and tighten all fasteners.

15. Pull open the caps at both ends of the new gas support cylinder and install.

16. Push in on the caps at each end of the gas support cylinder to engage the safety lock feature.

17. Verify the fit of the trunk lid to deck panel, adjust as necessary.

18. Repeat the procedure for the other side.
