1, 2 and 3 Digit Codes: 45

NAME OF CODE
45 - Internal Controller Failure (EEPROM Byte Failure)

WHEN MONITORED
After a reset (ignition key turned to the RUN position or after cranking engine).

SET CONDITION
There must be no write request to EEPROM and the engine model must not be erased. The code sets in approximately 14 seconds if the engine model stored in EEPROM is different from data stored in RAM.

THEORY OF OPERATION
The transaxle system supports several engine models, each requiring a different shift schedule and calibration constants. The transmission control module receives the engine model code from the powertrain control module and stores it in the microprocessor's E2 memory. Once the engine model code is established in the E2 memory, it is used thereafter to select the appropriate shift schedule and other calibrations.

The E2 memory location used for the engine model code is checked to verify its ability to hold data. If this E2 memory location fails the checks, the trouble code is set. This code does not cause transmission to go into limp-in mode.

POSSIBLE CAUSES
- Internal controller failure
