REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This bulletin involves replacing the left side steering gear mounting bushings.

1. Remove steering gear from vehicle as described on page 19-26 of the 1997 LHS/Concorde/Intrepid/Vision Service Manual (Publication No. 81-270-7140) for 1993 through 1997 models and page 19-30 of the 1999 LHS/300M/Concorde/Intrepid Service Manual (publication No. 81-270-9140) for 1998 through 1999 models.

2. Install the Receiver, Special Tool 8523-2, into the cup of the Ball Joint Press, Special Tool C-4212F, and tighten the set screw. Install the Driver, Special Tool 8523-1 on the tip of the Ball joint Press screw drive.

3. Place the steering gear housing against the Receiver (Figure 1). Tighten the screw drive until the Driver contacts the outer circumference of the bushing evenly. Continue to tighten until the bushing is pressed completely out of the steering gear. Remove the old bushing.

4. Position the steering gear housing against the Receiver in such a way that the Receiver does not come in contact with the support ribs on the gear housing. Start the new bushing in the bottom of the housing and tighten the screw drive until the Driver contacts the bushing retainer washer. Slowly tighten the screw drive until the bushing bottoms in the recessed area of the steering gear housing (Figure 2).

5. Repeat procedure on the other power steering gear housing bushing.

6. Install steering gear in vehicle.
