Clockspring Assembly / Spiral Cable: Description and Operation

The clockspring, is mounted on top of steering column behind steering wheel. It is used to maintain a continuous electrical circuit between wiring harness and driver's air bag module. The clockspring also maintains a continuous electrical circuit to speed control and horn switches. This assembly consists of a flat ribbon like electrically conductive tape, which winds and unwinds with steering wheel rotation.
