Visual Inspection
Fig. 35 Power Distribution Center:
NOTE: Before diagnosing or servicing the fuel injection system, perform a visual inspection for loose, disconnected, or misrouted wires and hoses. A thorough visual inspection that includes the following checks saves unnecessary test and diagnostic time.
1. Remove the power distribution center cover Check for blown fuses. Ensure all relays are properly installed.
2. Check the battery terminal connections for loose cables and corrosion.
Fig. 37 MAP Sensor:
3. Check the MAP sensor electrical connection.
4. Ensure spark plug cables are firmly connected in the correct order to the coil pack and spark plugs.
Fig. 39 Idle Air Control Motor:
5. Ensure the electrical connector is completely attached to the idle air contact motor.
Fig. 40 Throttle Position Sensor:
6. Ensure electrical connector is attached to the throttle position sensor.
Fig. 42 Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor:
7. Verify the electrical connector is attached to the engine coolant temperature sensor.
Fig. 43 Air Plenum:
8. Ensure the air plenum hoses are attached to the idle air control motor and the make up air nipple for the PCV system. Also ensure the [1][2]PCV hose is connected to the PCV valve. not the idle air control motor.
9. Ensure purge hoses are connected to throttle body -- each throttle body has a purge hose.
Fig. 44 Manifold Tuning Valve:
10. Ensure the vacuum hose is connected to the manifold tuning valve and the vacuum harness.
Fig. 46 Fuel Pressure Regulator:
11. Ensure the vacuum hose is attached to the fuel pressure regulator. Check the hose for cracks or leaks.

12. Ensure the EVAP solenoid and MTV solenoid electrical connectors are attached to the solenoids
13. Inspect the air cleaner filter element. Replace as necessary
Fig. 49 EVAP Canister Hose Connections:
14. Inspect hose connections at the EVAP canister for leaks. Remove the air cleaner to access the EVAP canister.
15. Verify the 2 40 way connector is fully inserted into the powertrain control module (PCM). Ensure the wires are not stretched or pulled out of the socket.
16. Ensure the accessory drive belt tension is correct.
