Engine Cooling System Requirements

To maintain the performance level of the heating/air-conditioning system. the engine cooling system must be prepared as shown here. The use of a bug screen is not recommended. Any obstructions in front of the radiator or condenser can reduce the performance of the A/C and/or the engine cooling system.

WARNING: Do not open cooling system when hot, as personal injury or damage to vehicle may result.

The engine cooling system is designed to develop an internal pressure of 97 to 123 kPa (14 to 18 psi). Wait 15 minutes (after shutting engine off), or until safe pressure and temperature is attained, before opening cooling system. Coolant temperature can be checked using the scan tool. The use of aluminum cylinder heads, intake manifolds, heater cores, and radiators requires the use of special corrosion protection. Use only Mopar antifreeze or ethylene-glycol based antifreeze containing Alugard 340-2. This additive is necessary for best cooling system protection. To obtain maximum life of the cooling system, mixing distilled water with ethylene-glycol type coolant is recommended.

CAUTION: Do not add additional inhibitors, anti-rust products, or soluble oil (sold as "water pump lubricants"). These products may not be compatible with the radiator coolant.
