SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Water and/or dust collection in the spare tire well or at the trunk floor to quarter panel seam.

DIAGNOSIS:

Verify that the deck lid seal, rear window glass, taillight housings, and upper body seams are not leaking using light and/or water tests. Repair as necessary. If no leaks are found or leak persists, pressurize the inside of the vehicle by setting the AC/Heater to outside air, instrument panel outlets, and blower on high. Close all windows, doors and deck lid. If air can be felt escaping from the quarter panel to outer wheel house panel seam(s), perform the Repair Procedure (Figure 1).

PARTS REQUIRED:

AR NPN Kent Leak Check Clear (Kent p/n 10195 or 10200) or Equivalent

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This bulletin involves sealing the quarter panel to outer wheel house panel seam(s).

1. Raise vehicle on a suitable hoist and remove the rear tire and wheel assemblies.

**2. Remove or pull back splash shield cover (1998-1999 M.Y.).**

CAUTION:
WEAR SUITABLE EYE PROTECTION WHILE CLEANING WITH COMPRESSED AIR.

3. Quarter panel to outer wheel house panel seams must be free of dirt, grease and other contaminants. Clean seam with Mopar Super Kleen (p/n 04318015) and compressed air.

4. Reshape the sealant nozzle from a round opening into an oblong narrow opening so that a narrow bead of sealer is formed.

5. Force sealant as far as possible into seam, especially where sheet metal gaps between spot welds. Smooth sealer with appropriate tool and wipe excess from painted surface.

6. Repeat procedure on other side of vehicle.

7. Allow sealant to dry (15-20 minutes) and test seam for leaks by spraying water at the quarter panel to outer panel wheel house seam. Pull back the trunk lining and check for the presence of water at the wheel house to trunk floor areas. Repeat procedure as necessary.

8. Reinstall tire and wheel assemblies.
