C. Install HCU Reinforcement Plate and Inject Grease

1. Raise vehicle on hoist.





2. Remove heat shield from the Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) (Figure 8).





3. Remove the screw retaining the brake tube routing clip and GENTLY bend brake tubes up SLIGHTLY to allow clearance for installation of reinforcement plate (Figure 9).





4. Loosen (DO NOT remove) the right front horizontal HCU bracket mounting screw three turns (Figure 10).

5. Slide the provided HCU reinforcement plate between the HCU and bracket. Position the end of the plate so that it aligns with the end of the HCU (Figure 10 and 11).

Note:
The offset portion of the reinforcement plate must face the HCU bracket





6. Torque right front horizontal HCU bracket screw to 250 in-lbs (28 N.m) (Figure 11).

7. GENTLY bend brake tubes back to their original position and install the tube routing clip and attaching bolt (Figure 9).





8. Disconnect six-way wiring connector at the rear of the HCU. Depress the locking tab and slide the wiring connector off of the HCU bracket retaining clip (Figure 12).

9. Unwrap tape from the HCU half of the wiring connector to expose open end of the convolute.

10. Attach provided nozzle to tube of grease.





11. Insert grease tube nozzle into HCU end of wiring harness convolute until it bottoms at HCU. Inject entire contents of grease tube into wiring convolute so that HCU solenoid cavity fills with grease (Figure 13).

12. Wrap tape around HCU half of the wiring connector and convolute.

13. Slide wiring connector onto HCU bracket retaining clip. Reconnect HCU six-way wiring connector.

14. Install HCU heat shield.

15. Lower vehicle from hoist.

16. Verify that no brake fluid leaks exist and road test vehicle to assure proper brake operation.
