Pinging/Snapping Noise From Exhaust System

NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES BUILT PRIOR TO JAN. 9, 1995 (MDH O1-09-XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

A loud pinging/snapping noise may be heard coming from under the middle of the vehicle after the engine is shut off.

DIAGNOSIS:

The vehicle must be fully warmed up by driving a minimum of two miles (highway speeds of 55 MPH is preferred). Idling is not always sufficient. Park the vehicle and shut off the engine. Listen for a loud pinging/snapping noise and verify it is coming from the exhaust resonator assembly located rearward of the catalytic converter.

1 4301410 Clamp, Extension Pipe to Catalytic Converter Pipe
1 4495532 Clamp, Extension Pipe to Tailpipe

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This bulletin involves replacing the exhaust pipe extension with resonator assembly.

1. Replace the exhaust pipe extension with resonator assembly with P/N 4546883 using the procedure in the appropriate Service Manual.

POLICY: Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty.
