NO.:

GROUP:
Brakes

DATE:
Mar. 23, 1992

SUBJECT:
Interminent Or Continuous ABS Warning Lamp Illumination

THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH ABS (ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM) BUILT PRIOR TO MDH 09-19-XX (SEPTEMBER 19, 1991).

MODELS:

1992 (AC) Dynasty/New Yorker Salon
(AY) Imperial/New Yorker Fifth Avenue

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

The ABS warning lamp may illuminate intermittently or continuously. This may be caused by the ABS system and warning lamp relay connectors not securely mating to the relays. Only vehicles built prior to MDH 09-19-XX (September 19, 1991) are affected and should have the ABS system and warning lamp relay connectors replaced using the following procedure. This condition affects antilock brake operation only, power assisted normal braking operation is not affected.

PARTS REQUIRED:

1 Wiring Jumper Harness Assembly 4720999
1 Wiring Jumper Harness Assembly 4721000

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This procedure involves replacement of the ABS system relay and warning lamp relay connectors.

1. With the ignition switch in the OFF position, disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Disconnect the wiring connectors from the ABS system and warning lamp relays located on the left inner fender just rearward of the headlamp.

3. Remove the connector wedges and terminals from the two connectors.

4. Remove enough tape from the wiring harness to allow identification of the wiring colors.

5. Remove the spot tape holding the heat shrink tubing onto the jumper harnesses, PN 4720999 and PN 4721000. Leave the heat shrink tubing on the jumper harness wires.

6. Insert the male terminals of the jumper harness into the female terminals previously removed from the connectors, taking care to match wire colors.

7. Slide the heat shrink tubing over the connections and heat the tubing until it shrinks tightly and sealant comes out of both ends.

8. Using electrical friction tape, wrap the heat shrink tubing connections and the entire jumper harness to within 3/4 inch (20 mm) of the new connectors.

9. Install the jumper connectors to the relays.

NOTE:
RELAYS ARE INTERCHANGEABLE.

10. With the ignition switch in the OFF position, connect the negative battery cable.

11. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and verify that the ABS warning lamp is not illuminating after the initial lamp illumination period (up to 30 seconds).

POLICY:
Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty.
