Charging System Verification Tests

Test VER, Charge System Verification

Inspect the vehicle to ensure that all engine components are connected. Reassemble and reconnect components as necessary.

If the engine controller has been changed, do the following:

1. If the vehicle is equipped with a factory theft alarm, start the vehicle at least 20 times so that the alarm system may be activated when desired.
2. If the vehicle is a minivan or a truck the vehicle's mileage must be copied from its odometer to a memory location within the replacement controller. This will enable the new controller to operate the Emissions Maintenance Reminder (EMR) lamp properly.

Connect the DRBII to the engine diagnostic connector and erase the faults.

Ensure no other charging system problems remain by doing the following:

1. Start the engine.
2. Raise the engine speed to 2000 rpm (1600 rpm for diesel) for at least 30 seconds.
3. Allow the engine to idle.
4. Turn the engine off.
5. Turn ignition key on.
6. With the DRBII, read fault messages.

If the repaired fault has reset, or another one has set, check all pertinent TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS and return to TEST CH-1A if necessary.

If there are no other faults, the repair is now complete.
