SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Vehicles may experience a loss and or intermittent operation of body controller function (power door locks, intermittent wipers, chimes, gauges, EVIC, illuminated entry, indicator lamps, cluster lighting). The vehicle relays may be causing a voltage spike which temporarily affects the body controller. Vehicles experiencing any of these conditions should have the following procedure performed.

PARTS REQUIRED:

As Required - Relay 5252672

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This procedure involves inspection and replacement of the vehicle relays (up to 15 relays per vehicle) as required.

1. Inspect all relays for part number and date code.

2. All relays with PN 4671001 and a date code prior to 3051 (305th day of 1991, November 1, 1991) as shown in Figure 1, should be replaced with a new relay PN 5252672. Relays are located in the Power Distribution Center (located in engine compartment) and in the Relay Block (located below the dash at the left kick panel).

3. After all relays with the suspect date code have been replaced, disconnect and reconnect the battery.

4. Using the DRB II, check for any body controller faults (in the Body Controller Menu select "READ FAULTS").

5. If the DRB II reads "NO FAULTS DETECTED", the repair procedure is complete.

6. If the DRB II reads "EEPROM CHECKSUM ERROR", replace the body controller.

7. Any other faults that are detected should be diagnosed using the appropriate 1992 diagnostic procedures manual.
