Fuel Filter: Service and Repair

Warning: The fuel system is under constant pressure, even when the engine is OFF. Always release fuel pressure before servicing any fuel system component.

Removal

1. Release fuel system pressure.
2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
3. Raise, and support the vehicle for access.
4. Remove fuel filter hoses and clamps from the inlet and outlet fuel lines. Remove the mounting bracket bolt, and remove the filter.

Installation

1. Install the new filter assembly on the mounting plate. Check the direction of flow by the markings on the filter, and ensure it is correct.
2. Install the mounting bolt, and torque to 8 Nm (75 lb-in)
3. Install the inlet and outlet hoses, and clamps. Tighten the clamps securely. Lower the vehicle. Connect negative battery terminal.

Note: The ASD and fuel pump relays remain energized for 7 minutes during the following test, unless the test is stopped or the ignition switch is turned to the OFF position.

4. Using scan tool, place ignition switch in "RUN" position and use Actuate Output Test "Auto Shutdown (ASD) Relay", to activate fuel pump and pressurize system.
5. Check for leaks.
