Brake Fluid Level Sensor/Switch: Description and Operation

The fluid level sensor, located in the reservoir cap of the hydraulic assembly, sends a signal to the BRAKE warning lamp, the Anti-lock Brake Control Module (ABM) and Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC), if so equipped. Upon detection of low fluid, the BRAKE warning lamp is illuminated, and after a 2 second delay, the ABCM disables the anti-lock function and turns on the ANTI-LOCK warning lamp. The sensor consists of a float and magnetic reed switch which closes when fluid level reaches a low threshold level.

NOTE: The fluid level sensor is a serviceable part.
