ABS System Description

The Bendix Anti-Lock 10 Brake System has self diagnosis capability. The self diagnosis cycle begins when the ignition switch is in the ON position. An electrical check is completed on the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) components such as wheel speed sensors continuity, system continuity and other relay continuity. During this check the Anti-Lock Light will be on for approximately one to two seconds.

The ABS system is constantly monitored by the CAB. If the CAB detects a fault, it can disable the brake system anti-lock function. Depending on the fault the CAB will light either one or both brake system warning lamps.

The CAB contains a Self-Diagnostic Program which activates the indicator lights when a system fault is detected. Faults are stored in a diagnostic program memory. There are 19 fault codes which may be stored in the CAB and displayed through the DRB II. These fault codes will remain in the memory even after the ignition switch is turned off.

The self diagnostic connector is located under the lefthand side of the instrument panel, left of the steering column. The diagnostic connector is a blue 6-way connector which can be connected to a DRB II readout box.
