SAFETY RECALL - FRONT OUTBOARD PASSENGER SEAT BELT
Dear Chrysler Corporation Vehicle Owner:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Chrysler Corporation has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in some 1991 model Plymouth, Dodge, Chrysler and Imperial vehicles equipped with 50/50 front bench seats. The defect involves the front outboard passenger seat belt buckle in these models. The driver's seat belt is not affected.
Your vehicle, identified on the enclosed form, is affected. For this reason we ask that you arrange for service to correct the condition without delay. The service and any required parts as described in this letter will be provided free of charge.
On the affected models, the front outboard passenger seat belt buckle assembly may become difficult to latch or unlatch. The condition is caused by a belt webbing stiffener entering the buckle housing and dislodging the buckle latch guide. If this occurs, the seat belt may not be fully engaged and may not adequately protect a belted occupant during a collision.
To correct the condition your dealer will inspect the buckle assembly to see if it has the defect. If it is not defective, the dealer will shorten the belt webbing stiffener to prevent the problem from occurring in the future. If a defect is present, the dealer will order and install a revised buckle assembly to replace the original.
The work will take about one-half hour to complete. However, additional time may be required depending on how dealer appointments are scheduled and processed. To obtain this free service:
^ Contact your dealer as soon as possible to schedule an appointment for the service.
^ Take the enclosed Owner Recall Notification Form with you at the time of your appointment and give it to your dealer. The form identifies the vehicle and recall for which the service is required.
If you have any problem obtaining the needed repair, please contact the Chrysler Zone Service Office in your area. (It is listed under "Service Assistance" in your Owner's Manual.) A Zone representative will arrange for prompt correction of the problem.
We regret any inconvenience which this action may cause you. However, we believe that you understand our concern for motor vehicle safety, and for your continued satisfaction with our products. If your dealer fails or is unable to remedy this defect without charge within a reasonable time, you may submit a written complaint to the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 400 Seventh Street, S.W., Washington, D.C. 20590, or call the Toll Free Auto Safety Hotline at 1-800-424-9393. (Washington D.C. area residents may call 366-0123.)
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
