Recall - Front Outboard Passenger Seat Belt: Overview

9215chrysler01

No. 511
November, 1991

To: All Dodge and Chrysler-Plymouth Dealers

Subject: Safety Recall # 511 -- Front Outboard Passenger Seat Belt

Models: The Following 1991 Model Year Passenger Cars Equipped With 50/50 Front Bench Seat (Power or Manual), Vehicles Built From Job # 1 Through Mid November, 1990:
- Plymouth Acclaim, Dodge Spirit, Chrysler LeBaron Sedan (AA-Body)
- Dodge Dynasty, Chrysler New Yorker (AC-Body)
- Chrysler New Yorker Fifth Avenue, Imperial (AY-Body)

On the listed vehicles, the front outboard passenger seat belt may become difficult to latch or unlatch due to a webbing stiffener entering the buckle housing and dislodging the buckle latch guide. To correct the condition, the buckle must be checked for engagement and release operation. If the latch buckle assembly operates properly, the webbing stiffener must be shortened to prevent a subsequent problem. If the buckle guide plate has already been dislodged, the buckle assembly must be replaced.

Note: The driver's seat position is not affected.

Important: Some of the involved vehicles may still be in dealer stock. Be sure to complete the service on these vehicles before retail delivery.

Details of this service action are explained in the following sections.

Note: As an additional service aid, a videotape demonstrating the service procedure will be included in the November, 1991 Master Tech program.
