Power Door Lock Switch: Testing and Inspection
NOTE: When testing this vehicle, it must be noted that the body computer will ignore the command to lock the doors IF:
^the key is in the ignition switch and
^the drivers door is open.
Once the key is removed or the drivers door is closed, the body computer will allow the power door locks to operate. This fail safe mode is provided to prevent the keys from being accidentally locked in the car.
Door Lock Switch Continuity:
Remove the door switch from the trim panel and carefully separate the wiring harness from the back of the switch. Connect a test light between the red and black wires. [1]
^ If the test light comes on, the power and ground sources to the switch are sufficient.
^ If the test light does not come on or is dim, check the circuit breaker and wiring.
Next, use an ohmmeter to check the switch for continuity through the proper pins in the indicated positions. If the continuity is not correct, replace the switch.
Remarks
[1] Use an external ground source when checking the right door harness.
