Fuel Gauge: Testing and Inspection

Fuel Gauge Pins:

1. Remove fuel gauge from the cluster.
2. Check for continuity in wire between fuel tank sending unit and gauge (fuel level input pin).
3. With ignition switch in On position, check for battery voltage across Ignition pin and ground pin.
^ If voltage or ground are missing, check wiring, printed circuit board and connections.

Multiple Gauge Malfunction

If the Voltmeter, Speedometer, Tachometer, and other gauges appear to be malfunctioning, proceed as follows:
1. Remove the cluster.
2. Check for ignition voltage at cavity 9 of the red cluster connector and ground.
^ If voltage is not present, repair open circuit.
3. Check for ground continuity between cavity 14 of the red cluster connector and ground.
^ If a good ground is not present, repair open circuit.
4. If circuits are OK and pins or connectors are not distorted, replace the printed circuit board.
