Subject: Safety Recall # 508 -- Parking Brake Cable
Models: 1991 Model Year Dodge Daytona (AG-Body) and Chrysler LeBaron Coupe and Convertible (AJ-Body) With Rear Drum Brakes, Vehicles Built on March 18, 1991
A small number of the listed model vehicles were built with mismatched parking brake cable lengths to the rear wheels (one long cable and one short cable). A vehicle built with mismatched cables will exhibit no or minimal parking brake application on the long cable wheel, and normal actuation on the short cable wheel. The condition likely will not meet the parking brake performance requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 105 (Hydraulic Brake Systems), and may cause undue stress on the cables.
To ensure proper system function, each vehicle must be inspected for mismatched cables and corrected as necessary by replacement of the longer cable.
Important: Some of the involved vehicles may still be in dealer stock. Be sure to complete the service on these vehicles before retail delivery.
Details of this service action are explained in the following sections.
