Front Door Window Motor: Service and Repair
REMOVALConventional Regulator
Power Window Regulator Mounting:
1. Raise the window to the "full up" position and place a block under the window glass to securely hold it in this position.[1]
2. Disconnect the wiring harness from the power window motor.
3. Remove the screw that secures the motor tie down bracket to the inner door panel (if applicable).
4. Remove the three mounting screws that attach the window motor to the regulator. There are holes provided in the inner door panel to access the mounting screws.
5. Remove the window motor from the regulator by pulling it away from the regulator with a slight rocking or twisting motion.
6. Remove the power window motor from the door.
Remarks
[1] Extreme caution should be used when working with any regulator that has a counterbalance spring. If the window is not secured in the "full up" position, removal of the power window motor will allow the counterbalance spring to move the sector gear very quickly. This could result in either personal injury or damage to the vehicle.
Cable Lift Regulator
Quarter Power Window Components:
1. Remove the convertible top slingwell assembly.
2. Remove the quarter trim upper mouldings.
3. Remove the cowl trim panels and the scuff plate panels.
4. Remove the rear seat cushions and rear quarter trim panel.
5. Position the window approximately 1/3 the way up.
6. Remove the glass stabilizer.
7. Disconnect the wiring plug from the window motor.
8. Remove the quarter window assembly attaching screws and remove the window assembly from the car.
Quarter Power Window Lift Mechanism:
9. Remove # 1 and # 2 window motor mounting screws.
10. Loosen the # 3 window motor mounting screw. This will allow the the window motor to pivot around this screw, relieving some tension from the cables.
11. Remove the mounting nuts from the lift plate and remove the glass and lift plate assembly.
12. Remove the motor from the regulator plate.
Quarter Power Window Cable Drum And Cable:
13. Remove the cover plate from the cable drum.
CAUTION: The cable drum may pop up and out of the housing due to residual tension remaining in the lift cables.
14. Pull the drum from the motor housing. Remove the cables from the drum paying close attention to the proper routing of the cables around the drum.
15. Check the cables for wear and replace if necessary.
INSTALLATION
Conventional Regulator
Power Window Regulator Mounting:
1. Position the power window motor on the regulator with the pilot properly aligned in the pilot hole of the regulator plate.
2. Check the window motor drive gear and sector gears for proper mesh.
3. Secure the window motor to the regulator with three mounting screws.
4. Secure the tie down bracket with one screw (if applicable).
5. Remove the window block.
6. Plug in the wiring harness to the window motor.
7. Test the system for proper operation before reinstalling door trim panel(s).
Cable Lift Regulator
Quarter Power Window Cable Drum And Cable:
1. Rewind cables on cable drum.
2. Lubricate drum as necessary and install drum to motor housing.
3. Reinstall housing cover plate.
Quarter Power Window Lift Mechanism:
4. Install motor to regulator plate by loosely installing # 3 mounting screw and swing the motor into position.
5. Install the remaining mounting screws and tighten all mounting screws.
6. Lubricate guide rail and glider assembly as necessary.
7. Test for proper assembly operation and cable routing.
7. Temporarily loosen the motor mounting screws to allow reassembly of the lift plate onto the regulator. Tighten lift plate nuts and retighten the motor mounting screws.
Quarter Power Window Components:
8. Install window lift assembly to vehicle and secure with original screws.
9. Connect the wiring harness to the window motor .
10. Install the glass stabilizer.
11. Install all trim panel and rear seat.
