SYMPTOM/CONDITIONSome owners may complain of a surge condition at speeds above 45 MPH. This condition may be caused by an RF signal being generated in the headlamp/dash wiring harness which results in a locking/unlocking of the torque convertor.
DIAGNOSIS
Check the headlamp/dash wiring harness part number. The harness PN tag is located under the air cleaner hose just behind the engine and main battery disconnects. If the harness PN is 4625355, this bulletin does not apply.
Connect the DRB II to the instrument panel blue bus connector and start engine. Put the DRB II in the RPM display mode. Drive the vehicle on a level or slightly up-hill road with the transmission selector in the OD position at 1550 engine RPM (use the speed control if vehicle is equipped). If the DRB II bottom line flashes "NO RESPONSE" OR "COMMAND REJECT", perform the following repair procedure.
If the above flashing displays are not present on the DRB II, refer to the appropriate Powertrain Diagnostic Manual.
NOTE: WHEN USING THE DRB II TO DIAGNOSE THE 1990 A- 604 TRANSMISSION, THE 1990 CARTRIDGE MUST BE USED TO INSURE ALL THE 1990 DIAGNOSTICS ARE AVAILABLE.
