Visual Inspection

A visual inspection for loose, disconnected, damaged, or misrouted wires and/or hoses should be made prior to diagnosing or servicing the fuel injection system. A thorough visual inspection will help find these faults and save unnecessary testing and diagnostic time.

VISUAL INSPECTION

1. Check the ignition coil electrical connections and secondary cable routing.

Purge Solenoid:

2. Check the canister purge solenoid vacuum and electrical connections.

Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor:

3. Check the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor vacuum and electrical connections, and the condition of the vacuum line to the intake manifold.
4. Check the vacuum hoses and connections between the vacuum source and canister purge solenoid.

Vapor Canister:

5. Check the hose connections at the vapor canister.
6. Check the alternator wiring connections and belt condition.
7. Check the engine ground strap between the engine and dash panel for condition and connections.
8. Check the oxygen sensor electrical connection.

Distributor Connector:

9. Check the distributor electrical connection.

Component Locations:

10. Check the coolant temperature sensor electrical connections.
11. Check the fuel injector electrical connections at each injector.
12. Check the vacuum hose condition and connections at the fuel pressure regulator and intake manifold.

Oil Pressure Sending Unit:

13. Check the oil pressure sending unit electrical connection.

Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)/Automatic Idle Speed (AIS) Motor:

14. Check the hose connections at the throttle body.
15. Check the throttle body electrical connections.
16. Check the PCV hose condition and connections.
17. Check the electrical and vacuum connections at the EGR solenoid and the vacuum connections and line condition throughout the EGR system.
18. Check the EGR tube leading to the intake plenum.

Vacuum Hose Connections:

19. Check the power brake booster and speed control connections.

Main Harness To Engine Harness Connections:

20. Check the engine harness to main harness electrical connections.

Automatic Transmission Electrical Connections:

21. Check the neutral safety switch electrical connection.
22. Check the automatic transmission electrical connections.

Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS):

23. Check the distance sensor electrical connections.

Single Board Engine Controller (SBEC):

24. Check the 60 way engine controller connector for proper seating.

Relay Location/Identification:

25. Check the radiator fan relay electrical connections.
26. Check the air conditioning relay electrical connections.
27. Check battery terminal connections for cleanliness and tightness.
28. Check the connections at the fuel pump.
