Service Procedure

Important:
The following revised service procedure requires transferring switches from the original instrument panel switch pod to the replacement pod.

1. With the ignition key in the OFF position, disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Remove the left front outboard screw and right front screw from the lower surfaces of the switch pod (Figure 1).

3. Adjust the tilt steering wheel (if so equipped) to its lowest position for increased access to the upper surface of the instrument panel.

4. Using a small flat bladed screwdriver, pry up evenly around the edges of the instrument panel vent located just forward of the switch pod and remove the vent.

5. Use a short handled Phillips screwdriver to remove the two switch pod retaining screws from the panel vent opening (Figure 1).

6. Remove the switch pod assembly from the instrument panel by pulling straight rearward to release it from the switch connectors.

7. With the switch pod assembly removed from the vehicle, remove the turn signal switch lever by pulling straight out of the pod.

8. Remove the lower bezel from the pod assembly to gain access to the switches.

9. With the pod assembly turned upside down for switch access, remove the turn signal switch.

Caution: In the next step, use extreme care when separating the switch link arms from the buttons as excessive prying may break the linkage.

10. Disconnect the parking lamp and headlamp switch links from the switch buttons by spreading the link arms apart (Figure 2).

11. Latch the switch links in the UP position on the upside down switch pod assembly (Figure 2).

12. Remove the park/headlamp switch mounting screws and remove the switch assembly.

13. Transfer the park/headlamp switch to the supplied switch pod bezel, inserting the dimmer shaft into the dimmer slide knob while aligning the switch in its mounting position.

14. Unlatch the switch links and press them downward to snap them in place on the switch push buttons (Figure 2).

15. Secure the park/headlamp switch assembly with the new, supplied screws.

Important:
Do not use the original screws. Petroleum based lubricant on those screws will damage the new switch pod mounting bosses.

16. Operate all switch modes to ensure proper operation.

17. Install the turn signal switch to the new switch pod assembly.

18. Install the turn signal lever by pushing it straight into the switch assembly.

19. For vehicles equipped with foglamps and/or rear wipe/wash, transfer these switch assemblies from the removed switch pod to the new switch pod assembly. Secure the switch assembly with the new, supplied screws.

20. Install the lower bezel to the new switch pod assembly.

21. Install the pod and lower bezel assembly by pushing it forward to fully engage the switch connectors.

22. Reinstall the two pod attaching screws in the instrument panel vent opening and torque them to 20 in. lbs. (2 N-m).

23. Reinstall the two lower switch pod attaching screws and torque them to 20 in. lbs. (2 N-m).

24. Reinstall the panel vent.

25. Reconnect the battery negative cable.

26. Test all pod mounted switches for proper function.
